Lunch with the Nonaka Family
On Sunday the 15th... Juan and I headed over to the residence of my dear friend, Meg. The Nonaka family welcomed us into their home with open arms and as usual mass amounts of delicious food. Unfortunately, Juan and I were not able to attend the big festivities (the entire Nonaka family had assembled the night before to celebrate all of the families December birthdays), but the immediate family assembled to toast my 28th birthday and the recent engagement/soon to be marriage of Juan and I.
As a wedding gift Meg showed us her wedding video. She and her husband had a traditional Japanese ceremony. In this ceremony the bride and groom share 3 cups of sake of different sizes and after some revered words are spoken... they are married. After the video... they pulled out a large gift box and after 30 seconds of unwrapping Juan and I were privy to our own set of Japaneses wedding accoutrement. Here is a short video of our very own Japanese wedding ceremony. Since there were no other unmarried ladies in the house, Meg's beautiful daughter Rie-chan poured the libations (with Mom's help of course).
