So taking a soak in the onsen is serious business. After you get over your fear of being naked in front of others, you need to take off all your clothes and head over to the washing station.
Since this is a natural surrounding onsen, you need to take your stool and place it on an unsteady rock (sometimes it is easier just to sit on the damn rock, especially after drinking a lot of sake). Then you proceed to get really, really clean. Use the wash rag, a lot of soap. Make sure you rinse all the dirt and soap off. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Remember... no soap bubbles in the tub (it's a Japanese thing)!
Now, Onsens are natural hot spring water, each onsen is said to have its own healing powers. One for kidneys, one for skin disorders etc. I have no idea what this one is good for, except relaxing after a long journey.
Be careful when you get in. Its friggin hot. Actually for the first half an hour you need to get in and out a lot, thank goodness for all those uneven rocks to sit on.
Our visit was most satisfactory and if any one ever has the chance to visit an onsen (either private, like this one, or public), you should do it.
Just make sure you don't "DO IT" in the onsen... it is said to bring bad luck.
Till next time... lots of love from across the blue.
Jody
