So... what the hell did I do for two days and three nights up in the mountains. I did what everyone else did. I ate a lot of meat, drank a lot of liquior. If you think it sounds like good times.... then you are absolutly correct!
Most of the people there are JETs living in Tochigi. Don't ask me how we got invited, i have no idea.
Some one brought a really fancy beer bong.
Since there is a lot of people who don't know what a SMORE is (side note: if for some reason my entire memory dissapears, please remind me what smores are asap), cooking them was tons of fun. I guess being north American has at least one perk..... MMMMMMM Smores!!!!!
The next day was all about the meat. Meat for breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, afternoontea, dinner and supper. We ate a lot of meat.
The leaves were on the verge of turning. In two weeks it will be perfect. To bad I can't come back then. The Ami group is planning a weekend in Nikko in three weeks, but I am unavailable to go due to a prior engagement. Anywhoo...
In the afternoon, a bunch of us headed over to the onzen, which was only a 3 minute walk from our cabins. This was my first time in a public onzen, but after you get over the fact that there are a lot of old naked japanese women everywhere, it is not that bad. The hot spring was out doors and had a fantastic view of the mountains that were swimming in the fall mist. AHHHHH, very relaxing.
After our dip, we lounged around in the cafeteria and had a beer and a bit to eat. What did we eat. RAW DEER MEAT. It was sooooooooooooo friggin good. Here is Mike's wife (I can't remember her name at the moment. Crap! Why can't I ever remember anyones name that I had just gotten naked with? Oh well.) attempting to be like a deer. Very funny.
When we returned from the onzen, it was back time to continue our drinking and meat eating.
I have always stayed away from fish on a stick, but I had one and it was amazing. It was perfect. I wouldn't eat the head, there are just something I won't do.
Fish and wieners for lunch. About 4pm, the lamb that has been roasing all day in beer, habaneros and many other spices was ready.Berry was very pround of his home made oven. He should be. The meat was delicious.
After getting drunk on beer and meat, we were finally ready to dawn our Halloween costumes.
Since everyone was drunk, I seem to be the only one who took pictures, becasue I don't drink anymore, I don't drink any less either ; ) .
So just in case you want to know what my costume was.. I was a beatnik, or eurotrash... it was hard to tell the difference. Whatever I was... it involved me saying CIAO a lot!
It got a little cold, so we moved the party into our cabin.
But before to long it turned into a DANCE PARTY!!!
Eventually someone decided to go to bed, and after another bottle of so-chu and several hours more of danceing, the rest of us thought it was also a good idea.
THE NEXT DAY...
Tressa desperatly needs a coke, so I go out and get her one and a box of coffee milk for me. Thank the goddess for vending machines!
Some people were less hungover than others. And they were nice enough to wash veggies and cook a lot of meat for breakfast.
After gorging ourselves, we cleaned up the bunks (leaving them almost as clean as we found them) and some of us headed back to the onzen while others nursed their hangovers.
Before long, it was time to head outta there. It was a long weekend, and I know it took me several days to recover from it. However, it was really nice to be invited to an event, even though I didn't know 80% of the people. It's always great to meet a few more english speaking people in Japan!
JA NE!
