I'm in Heaven!

So it is officially fall and I am in Persimmon Heaven. They are everywhere! They are not very popular in the stores because everyone seems to own a tree. Two weeks ago it was time for fall mandarian oranges (however I was not able to get any good pictures).

Fruit is very expensive in Japan. Which is why it makes such a thoughtful gift. But when most people own their own tree they give away fruit like it's going out of style. I have also recieved several choice apples, oranges and nuts.

I have one thing to say for the Japanese... they take their fruit seriously... and in the grand tradition of Japan.. any thing worth doing is worth doing well. The fruit here is the best tasting, most exquisitely delicious, precious item I have come upon. Fruit is wrapted in special boxes or containters. Their may be only 30 apples at the store, but you can guarentee that every one of them is perfect in color, texture and taste. In Tokyo, A melon in December will go for $80-100 bucks. It sure makes you appreciate Harry and David catalogues!
