Dec 30th... Traveling to Kyoto

During 3 of the 4 major school holidays in Japan, JR (japan rail) offers a great discount ticket for those who want to travel, but can't really afford to do so in style. The Seishun 18 kippu was originally designed for college students, but anyone can use it. A 5 day pass costs 11,500Yen or just 23 bucks a day. The only down part is that you only can take local or express trains. Which means that it will take you about 8 hours and no less than 5 train changes to get from Tokyo to Kyoto. But if you have a lot of time and not a lot of money... it's a perfect choice.

Good Morning from Shinagawa Station!

Still early in the day, everyone is pretty energenic.

Because I made us rice balls and packed a ton of snacks, we didn't need to stop to eat anywhere. Which was a good idea on my part, because on several of our changes we had to litteraly run to the next train to get a seat. We had to stand for part of the day, but for the most part, we got a seat.
Here we are at the "CUBE" at Kyoto station. We decided to get a bit to eat before heading to our guest house for the night.
Everyone loves tonkatsu. YUMMY!!!
