Is Mr. Darcy interested in Miss Bennet's fine eyes or her BRAINS??

If you know me (Jody, not Juan), you know that I enjoy reading Jane Austen and I LOVE Pride and Prejudice. I read this book at least twice a year and have listened to the audio book 3 times since Juan put a collection of audio books on my MP3 player as a gift for my last birthday.

Today, as I was listening to a recent episode of Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, my favorite NPR (National (USA) Public Radio) show, I was surprised to hear about a book soon to be released entitled Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. That's right, your eyes are not deceiving you, zombies!!! ZOMBIES!!!!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton--and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers--and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Complete with 20 illustrations in the style of C. E. Brock (the original illustrator of Pride and Prejudice), this insanely funny expanded edition will introduce Jane Austen's classic novel to new legions of fans.

I seriously do not know what to think. Is this vulgar and obscene?? Is this funny and entertaining? Is this destroying a classic novel or bringing it into a contemporary spotlight so that an uneducated and lazy youth can relate to it (which is what I thought Bridget Jones Diary was supposed to do (please tell me that you have noticed the blatant similarities between the two))? All I can say... is that I can't wait to read it.

Whether it be a treasure or pure trash, it will at least be a conversation piece for all of my book worm friends. The release date is May 13th. Go to Amazon now to pre-order this crazy book so we can skype each other and discuss for hours on end whether Mr. Collins, as a member of the clergy, is allowed to kill zombies or better yet... if Lady Catherine de Bourgh would praise or punish him for doing so.

I think it's going to be hilarious. Or at least I hope it will. Is it worth anything beyond conversation piece? Hell, no, I'm sure. But I'm sure lots of laughs will be got out of it, and that's definitely worth something.

Love ya,
C
