Shakuji Keon Festival

Juan and I headed over to our local park for their annual festival. According to Nerima city, there used to be a castle/fortress/big house at Shakuji which housed the local lord. A long time ago, he was invaded by a nearby lord and after many battles the Shakuji lord knew that losing was inevitable. And in the grand gesture of Japanese nobility, he put a gold saddle on his horse and rode into the Shakuji pond and drowned. He was then followed by his faithful daughter. The Shakuji Koen Festival commemorates this small local story.

Start with a hefty dose of children dressed up in period costumes, add 4 cups of food vendors, a dash of every dance group in the nearby area and then whipped up by all the community law enforcement agents and then you would get something that resembles our local festival.

I hope we can remember where we parked our bicycles.

Everything in Japan has a character. Here is the fire departments. 119 not 911.

Nerima is famous for it's Daikons.

Yaki Soba is delicious. And Juan loves his yakisoba!!

Some famous Japanese period drama actresses were mc-ing the event.

WARNING!!!! This video has a lot of Japanese people in it.
